 Rey Misterio Sr., a legendary figure in professional wrestling and uncle to WWE superstar Rey Mysterio, passed away on December 20, 2024, at the age of 66. 

Born Miguel Ángel López Días in Tijuana, Mexico, in 1955, Misterio Sr. began his wrestling career in 1976 after initially training as a boxer. He became a prominent figure in lucha libre, the Mexican style of professional wrestling, and was instrumental in training and mentoring numerous wrestlers, including his nephew, Rey Mysterio. 

His passing comes shortly after another family tragedy—the death of Rey Mysterio's father, Robert Gutierrez, aged 76. Rey Mysterio, who continues to compete in WWE, recently paid tribute to his father, expressing gratitude for his guidance and strong family values. 

The wrestling community has expressed deep condolences, with Mexican wrestling organization Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide announcing Misterio Sr.'s death on social media and honoring his legacy.
