Roman salute

The Roman salute, often associated with Ancient Rome, is a gesture in which the arm is extended forward, raised at an angle, and the palm is open or facing down. While the gesture is sometimes depicted in Roman imagery, it was not widely used in Ancient Rome as a formal salute.

In modern history, the Roman salute gained prominence during the early 20th century, particularly when it was adopted by fascist regimes, most notably by Benito Mussolini's Italy and later by Nazi Germany, where it became a symbol of totalitarianism. This association has led to a strong negative connotation of the salute due to its connection with those regimes and their ideologies. Today, it is primarily viewed as a symbol of fascism and authoritarianism
